While the main objective in coming to Thailand is playing the many challenging and wonderful golf courses; you can also take advantage of some great deals whist shopping, especially at the many stores and side walk vendors selling golf equipment and accessories. In addition to the wide choice of clubs available, Thailand offers tremendous value for golf accessories, including clothing, golf balls, shoes, head covers, eye wear, and training aids to name but a few. Golf clothing provides a partic...

Thailand Golf Clubhouses: Facilities, Services, and Amenities (P

Facilities at such famous venues as the venerable  Thai Country Club, with the best clubhouse in all Asia, can be quite daunting. Here is the second and final part of my clubhouse article covering food, locker facilities, and what to do prior to and after your game to get maximum enjoyment and realize the dream of a total golf experience! Thailand Rental Golf Balls and Golf Ball Diving (NOT Driving)

Every Thailand golf course sells used golf balls, both just outside the front gates to the course and also on the course itself. These balls, in sometimes new condition, can be “purchased” for around 200 baht for a half dozen (around 75 cents each), a significant savings from the new prices. Most of the time they have been “fished” from the many water hazards, by an independent and full time golf ball diver (see photo on the left and No the guy is not me!) These entrepreneurs are often called “...

Golf In Chiang Mai

Golf up North is much different from the rest of the Kingdom. As you can see from the original photo at left (click on the thumbnail for a great high resolution shot), there are many mountains, and thus frequent elevation changes at many of the Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai courses. Also, be located high above sea level, makes temperatures much cooler, with even a light jacket sometimes needed in winter. On the other hand, during the summer months (now!), the rains can be very heavy, thus stopping ...

Golfing in Thailand: A Personal Short Story (Part 4 of 4)

Here is the final part of Shankar’s story. I hope you found this interesting and enjoyed his unique writing style. Stopping briefly for a quick bite and some Coke and so on for our caddies, we went across to the West course for our second half. Fortified well by the rather excellent snacks available at the golf hut, we quite possibly were a little over-confident on our 10th hole, (the first hole on the West Course), a par 5, 499 yard monster, causing both of us to double. The 11th and 12...

Golfing in Thailand: A Personal Short Story (Part 3 of 4)

Here is Shankar and Matthew’s story about their second day golfing in Bangkok, at the venerable Pinehurst Golf Club. By the way I wonder what will happened to this club once the airport moves as the only real attraction is the proximity to Don Muang. Part II – Pinehurst Golf and Country Club, Klong 1, Pathumthanee, Thailand. Monday 28th August 2006. Bright and early on a fine Monday morning, around the time when most normal people perform their ablutions prior to setting out for work, som...

Golfing in Thailand: A Personal Short Story (Part 2 of 4)

Here is the continuation of Shankar’s story, and another Thailandgolfzone worldwide scoop! Shankar and Mathew have just finished the front nine at President Country Club………… We stopped then at the golf hut to re-vitalize our systems with some chilled water and a plantain fruit for some extra energy, (sorely needed to tackle the particularly dangerous, water hazard laden, East course.)

Golfing in Thailand: A Personal Short Story (Part 1 of 4)

Yesterday Mr. Shankar Balan sent me this short story about his personal golf experiences last week in Bangkok. The full story will be published in next month’s Golfline Magzine, India. He graciously agreed and thus I decided to devote the next 4 days to  the world’s first posting of the best parts Shankar’s story, another Thailandg...

Here is the final part of the unique points to consider when playing golf in Thailand. I hope you find this interesting and useful. Caddies are a unique feature of Thai golf, and predominantly female, they perform a great task in very tiring conditions. Always be polite and courteous to your caddy, and you are sure to get a great service. Although the language can be a problem, there are ways to get around this. Tips are greatly appreciated by the caddies and I recommend 300 baht (around 7 US) ...

Thailand and Scotland Golf: A Bief Comparison (Part 2 of 2)

Here is the continuation of the post I started last Friday. In Thailand, golfing gives a premium to those who can hit your shots to specific targets, and not worrying to much about what the ball will do upon landing. The soft conditions ensure it will not travel so far. In Scotland, you can easily get 50- 60 yards run on your drive, and must play approach shots short of the green to allow the ball to go forward from the firm ground. This is not always the case but certainly applies on links ty...

Thailand and Scotland Golf: A Bief Comparison (Part 1 of 2)

From the original ‘home of golf’ to one of the most popular destinations for tourists to go and play golf, this is certainly a case of two extremes. Having played on the windswept links courses in Scotland, which certainly is a real test of your full golfing capabilities, I still find the challenges that the wide variety of excellent courses that Thailand provides, extremely satisfying and most enjoyable. Sure it can get a bit hot at times, but when I do not need to think about how many sweaters...

A couple of these courses that I like i...
