Pattaya Golf: Playing and My 5 Favorite Courses (Part 2)

Pattaya Golf Courses (Part 2)

Here are the next 2 of my favorite Pattaya courses continued from yesterday.

2. St. Andrews 2000 Golf Course was originally designed to replicate a Scottish Links course. Subsequently it was redesigned and in the process has left one of the most challenging courses in Thailand. There are 2 par 6s (yes that is not a typographical error) each measuring some 800 yards from tee to green, which just make then quality for the 3 longest golf holes in the world. This is unique in itself, although several other well bunkered holes means there is no room for error. Plenty of elevation on the course means you have to be careful on the large sloping greens or else you will find yourself with a number of 3 putts.

The course is always in very good condition this is a must for anyone visiting Pattaya. As with Laem Chabang, golf carts are compulsory, although in this courses’ situation due to the extra long yardage, I can start to understand the necessity of using a golf cart.

3. Khao Kheow Country Club is a very tough and challenging Pete Dye designed course set in the backdrop of surrounding hills. There are 3 nine holes all of which are equally difficult.

Typical of Pete Dye, accuracy is a premium with water and well placed bunkers waiting for errant tee shots. To score well here you must drive the ball very straight. The greens are well guarded but not overly difficult once you are there.

This is very much a test for all levels of golfers and will reward the person who thinks and plays strategically. The low hills that surround the course make for very pleasant playing conditions, especially in the afternoon when the winds pick up and gentle breezes are felt throughout the course.

Tomorrow I will post the final part of this series, which will cover the last 2 of my 5 favorite Pattaya golf courses, with one of them being a big surprise.
