Phuket Golf: Blue Canyon Country Club, Lakes Course

Phuket Golf: Blue Canyon Country Club, Lakes Course

Blue canyon lakes course Here is the continuation of my Blue Canyon Country Club review.

A second 18 holes, the Blue Canyon Lakes Course, was opened a couple of years ago and presents an equally demanding challenge. It has been closed for the past six months for extensive maintenance work and is scheduled to re-open in two weeks on November 13.

I can not wait to play the Lakes. The last time I was in town I had the good fortune to be given a preview of the upgrading and I fully expect the course to be as good as, if not better than, it’s more famous sister, Canyon Course.

The Lakes site has basically the same make-up as the Canyon: a mix of rubber plantation and water filled canyons created by open-cast tin mining, but combined with more water hazards – water comes into play on 17 holes.  Gradual undulations make for a generally easy walking course, although golf carts are now compulsory . The 18 holes run continuously rather than two loops of 9. Only holes 17 and 18 flow consecutively in the same direction.

The course has been designed by the same designers as the Canyon Course to cater for a broad range of golfers, with silver tees being added between red (ladies) and white (men’s) tees.  The 18th hole is probably the hole you will remember best – from the Championship tee there may not be a harder finishing hole anywhere in the world!

Blue_canyon_golf_resort At Blue Canyon, it’s not only the course which leaves an impression. The Club also houses the Blue Canyon Golf School. The clubhouse offers Thai, Japanese and International cuisine. The spacious opulently designed changing facilities, Jacuzzis, steam room, sauna and massage facilities, tennis courts and swimming pools are amongst the best to be found in Thailand. Guests can stay in the Golfer’s Lodge Spa, or in a variety of luxurious apartments and villas set around the golf course as can be seen in the photo on the left.

Well that about does it for Blue Canyon. Next week I will carry on with Phuket golf course reviews covering Phuket Country Club, Loch Palm, and Laguna.

In the meantime if anyone has any feedback or more insights about Phuket golf, please feel free to post a comment, or email me at my Thailand golf travel company.
